There are a few famous monuments in Bangkok; all of them display grandiose design, laden with symbolism. They signify major historical events: the onset of Thai constitutional monarchy is marked by the Democracy Monument, while the Victory monument was erected to honor the people who lost their lives in the Indochina incident between Thailand and France. Finally, the National Memorial stands in memory of all people who fought for Thailand.

Unlike in some other countries, these monuments in Thailand keep fulfilling their purpose, because they are still revered. People are receptive to the meaning that the founders intended for these memorials to convey. Visitors keen on getting a better understanding of Thai history and culture are advised to take a trip to these sites.

The structures are usually located at very busy intersections, and visitors will almost invariably find that something is going on at a particular site - shows, celebrations, school visits or parades, indicating that Thai people truly honor their past, not only with marble and cement, but also with pride and dignity.
