As you can see from the map below, there are a number of major shopping areas which are well served by the Sky Train route. In addition, you will find a number of the Sky Train stations have Skybridges which take you straight into the shopping malls without having to go down to street level.

(Central) The main shopping area for many people is the interchange station at Siam Sqaure. Here you will find a Skybridge at Exit 1 that takes you straight into Siam Center where you will find a variety of shops, resaurants, fast food outlets and a cineplex. Siam Center and Siam Discovery Center are connected by another bridge making one big shopping mall. If you take Exit 2 on the other side of the station then you will see the hundreds of little shops down at street level which make up Siam Square. This is a trendy area for today's Thai youth. Siam Square is made up of a number of parallel lanes containing boutiques and shops selling clothes, books, jewelry etc. There is also a cinema and a number of restaurants.

(N2) Heading north, you can get off at Phaya Thai Station for the massive Pantip Plaza. Here you will find computer hardware, software and other accessories at very competitive prices. There are four floors and just about every shop is selling computers! From the Sky Train station, you will need to take a tuk tuk along New Petchaburi Road for about 2 km. Don't pay him too much! If you went in a taxi it probably wouldn't go pass the initial 35 baht fee on the meter.

(N8) At the end of the line, at Mo Chit Station, you will find the very popular Weekend Market which is known in Thai as Chatuchak (JJ Market). As you are pulling into the station you will see the massive market on your left hand side. Take Exit 1 and walk straight for 100 metres. Only open on Saturdays and Sundays, you will find just about everything possible amongst thousands of stalls. If you are visiting Bangkok at the weekend then make sure you visit this market for some great bargains. Chatuchak starts to close by 6 p.m. If you find that you haven't bought enough things, then walk to the nearby Chatuchak Park Metro Station to take the underground train to the large Suan Lum Night Bazzar. Get off at Lumphini Metro Station. Exit 3 will take you straight into the Bazzar with its hundreds of stalls, restaurants and live entertainment.

Also from Mo Chit Station, there is a free BTS Shuttle Bus service that will take you to the nearby Central Plaza Lat Phrao. A popular destination for Thai youth and fashion seekers.

(W1) One stop west from Siam Station is the National Stadium Station. From here there is a Skybridge that takes you into Tokyo Department Store. Just walk straight through TDS, if you like, to reach the massive Mahboonkrong (MBK) Center. The hundreds of shops here sell clothing, mobile phones and accessories, jewelry, computer software and DVDs, music, leather goods, shoes and electronics. If you are extra big, you will find several good clothing shops for you. You will also find many fast food outlets and movie theatres where you can take a break from all of the shopping. It is actually easy to walk from here along the street to Siam Discovery Center and Siam Square. There is no need to pay 10 baht for the Sky Train unless you have a Day Pass and want to get your money's worth.

(E1) Heading east now, your first stop at Chitlom (Chidlom) has enough big shopping malls to keep you busy all day! Here you will Skybridges that will take you straight into Gaysorn (upmarket fashionable outlets), Central Chitlom (a department store with a wide variety of merchandise, brand name boutiques, restaurants and supermarket), and Amarin Plaza (with the Sogo department store, restaurants, speciality shops and fast food). Opposite Gayson is the large Central World Plaza (formerly World Trade Center). This is a modern shopping complex with Isetan and Zen Central Department stores. There is also a cineplex and ice skating rink. Next door to Gaysorn is Narayana Phand. This is a multistory shopping center for Thai crafts, decorative items and souvenirs. If you want to keep walking along this street, you will next come to the massive Big C Hypermarket. By this time, you are probably a 10 minute walk from the lthe Pratunam Shopping Complex and Pratunam Market. At the latter you will find fabrics and ready-to-wear fashions. You can also find watches, towels, bedding etc. From here, it is only another 5 minute walk to the large computer shopping mall at Pantip Plaza.

(E2-9) The Sky Train now follows Sukhumwit Road south-east all the way to On Nut. On both sides of the road you will find many different kinds of shops which largely cater for the expat community that live in this area. At Ploenchit Station (E2), you might like to visit Home Pro for household items. At Nana Station (E3), you can visit the Nana Night Market. One stop down is Robinson Department Store which is near Asok Station (E4). Emporium, at Phrom Phong Station (E5), is an upmarket mall with department store, designer boutiques, book-stores, restaurants, cinema complex and restaurants. Two more stops down at Ekkamai Station (E7) is Major Cineplex, which has cinemas, bowling, restaurants and general shops. At On Nut Station (E9), which is the end of the line, you will find Tesco Lotus Hypermarket. From here there is a free BTS Shuttle Bus Service which will take you to the large Central City Bangna shopping center. As well as hundreds of shops and restaurants, you will also find a large swimming pool complex with giant slides and adventure playgrounds.

(S1) From Siam Station, the first stop south is at Ratchadamri Station. Here you will find Peninsula Plaza. This is an up-market shopping plaza with various designer brand shops, jewelry stores, airline offices, bookstores and restaurants. From the station, take Exit 4 and walk straight ahead for 250 metres.

(S2) Next stop is Sala Daeng Station. Take the Skybridge at Exit 4 and walk straight into Central Silom Complex. This is a large and famous department store with a wide range of merchandise. Nearby you will find Robinsom Silom. This is a department store which also has a wide range of general goods and a supermarket. For Robinson, take Exit 3, turn around and walk ahead for 200 metres to Saladaeng intersection. Also on this road is Patpong Market which is famous amongst tourists. Take Exit 1 and keep walking for about 200 metres.

(S6) At the end of the line you can change to a River Express Boat for River City at Si Phraya Pier. This contains numerous shops selling antiques, old maps etc. from Southeast Asia. Also choose from many shops selling handicraft and silk clothing. Two more stops up-river on the Express Boat is Ratchawongse Pier. Here you can walk about 450 metres north to Chinatown for wholesale shops and street markets.
